Playing pool is a popular indoor game found in bars, pool halls, and homes throughout the world. Pool isn’t subject to justĀ being played indoors though. There are tables that are designed for outdoor use as well. Obviously having to deal with the elements they need a bit different make up, but the idea is the same. Here are the basics and what you need to know about outdoor pool tables.
Outdoor Pool Table Construction
Since the pool table is to be used outdoors there are quite a few other factors that will have an effect on the table. Things like wind, rain, snow, heat, cold, dirt, sand, and those pesky bugs will all now be much more of a factor on the table including the normal wear and tear. This means that the material for the table must come in to consideration and the right material for durability should be used. Is the right material always used? Unfortunately not, but there are plenty of outdoor tables that are made of durable weather resistant material.
So what are the materials used in outdoor pool tables? Well there are a wide variety of different materials used for the table. Plastic, fiberglass, wood, and metal are the most commonly used materials used to make outdoor pool tables. Unfortunately with the long term effects of the weather you will often see tables bend, bow, and become warped from the added stress it must endure. This is especially common in tables made of plastic, wood, and fiberglass. These are all materials that change in dimension with extended exposure to the elements.
Unfortunately this isn’t good for something like a pool table since while playing you want the integrity intact and they can potentially become quite flawed which may ultimately make them dangerous. Remember most tables have a slate top which is quite heavy. That alone puts a lot of stress on a table. Add the various temperature changes, moisture, wind, and other factors and the table can really change shape. Thus if you are going to purchase an outdoor table make it an indoor outdoor pool table where you possibly have it on a porch or in a garage. Otherwise purchase a metal table. The best tables are made of aluminum or stainless steel. These tables are the most resistant to weather and thus, they keep their integrity intact for much longer than other material. They should come with a lifetime warranty. If you are a serious pool player and must have an outdoor table then I suggest looking into one made of aluminum or stainless steel.
Price and Places to Purchase
Unfortunately outdoor pool tables aren’t very cheap. My suggestion is set a price range and start looking online within the price range you’ve selected. An example of a popular outdoor pool table is the Mizerak outdoor pool table. I have an article on Mizerak tables and there is an outdoor table within this line. I have a link set up for you to take a look. It starts at $2000 but this in my opinion is a low end pool table for outdoor use. If you are looking for something that will last like the aluminum pool tables I mentioned earlier you will have to dip into the pocket book a little bit deeper. The quality tables start at $5000 and go up from there. If you will be placing the table in a screened in room or in a garage then you can get by with just about any outdoor table, and will be able to purchase a good one forĀ $2000-$4000. I suggest an outdoor pool table cover with any table you purchase, especially one with extended exposure to the elements.
An outdoor pool table is an excellent way to entertain family and friends. It’s a great way to get outside and practice your pool game as well. Make sure you take into consideration how much the table will be affected by the elements, where you will be placing it, and how long you want it to last. This, along with your budget, should help you determine how much to spend and what type of outdoor pool table you should purchase.
