Purchasing a brand new pool table is great but it can be quite expensive for a decent quality table. Not only that you may have additional cost for the accessories to go with it. If you aren’t sure that you can afford a nice new table there are alternatives. You can always purchase a cheap table from a department store like Walmart or Target. This is an option but understand these tables aren’t going to be high quality. The other option is to purchase a used pool table. There are plenty of cheap used pool tables for sale. You just need to know where to look.
Where to Look
When looking for used or discount pool tables for sale there are various places to start your search. The obvious and most easy choice is the internet. You can always go on ebay and make a bid there. Cragslist is also another good place to look. With Craigslist you can search your area and find individuals who are selling used tables. This is nice because you can actually go see the table before you purchase it wheras ebay you may not have this luxury. I also recommend this site as well. It has information about pool tables and classifieds for used pool tables throughout the nation. I am in no way involved with this site however it can get you started with some information and a search in your area as well. I also suggest looking around at auctions, moving, or estate sales. People often get rid of large items they no longer want for a fraction of what they are actually worth. You may be able to pick up a nice barely used table for a a small percentage of what it would cost elsewhere. Finally call a few local dealers of pool tables. Ask them if they have any used tables for sale. They may be a bit more expensive than the other choices but will likely be in excellent shape and possibly repaired to look almost brand new.
A Few Things to Know
Just as if you were looking at antique pool tables for sale you need to be aware of a few things as you look around. First do some research. Research the brands you are looking at, the dealer(s) you are shopping at, and the cost of moving the table. Remember a pool table will have to be moved into your home and that isn’t free. Make sure you understand how much room you will need for each size table. A 9′ table needs quite a bit more room than a 7′ table. Make sure you have the space for the tables you are shopping for. Inspect the table, and if at all possible, try and play a game on the table you are looking at purchasing. This is especially important if purchasing from an individual and not a dealer. A dealer will have the table repaired and in the best shape possible for sale whereas the individual may not. Know your budget. If your budget is $1500 does this include the cost of the table, moving the table, and any accessories like pool cues? You can easily add an additional $500 or more with moving and accessory costs.
When it’s all said and done you should be able to purchase a quality used pool table for as little as $500 for the table alone. You will likely spend between $500 – $1500 for a used table and a few hundred more for moving and additional accessories. If this sounds like it’s where you want to be with your budget for a pool table then you are on the right track. If you can allot more money to the equation then I would actually look at new tables as well and compare. Regardless purchasing a new or used table should ensure a lot of fun for you and anyone else that plays upon it. Just make sure to take into consideration what I mentioned prior to making your decision.
